Tunis Village

Tunis Village is the Fayoum's most charming corner, a hilltop cluster of mudbrick homes, gardens and lodges perched above Lake Qarun. Over recent decades it has grown into Egypt's pottery capital, its lanes dotted with studios and kilns.
You can watch potters at the wheel, browse handmade ceramics glazed in earthy blues and greens, and even sit down for a lesson. Beyond the clay, the village is simply a lovely place to slow down: leafy guesthouses, home-cooked meals, sunset views over the lake and an easy, arty calm that feels far from Cairo's roar.
It makes an ideal overnight base for exploring the wider Fayoum, letting you catch the lake at dawn and dusk. Go for the crafts, the quiet and the countryside hospitality.
Know before you go
Many studios sell directly and prices are fair, so buy pottery here rather than in Cairo and ask sellers to wrap fragile pieces well for travel.
