Soma Bay is a serene resort peninsula south of Hurghada, ringed by turquoise shallows and some of the calmest reefs on this stretch of the Red Sea. Away from the bustle of the main resort strip, it's a place of wide sandy flats, spa hotels and a championship golf course laid out along the water's edge.
The headland's house reef, reached by a long jetty, drops into rich coral just off the point — excellent for snorkelling and diving without a boat. Add windsurfing and kitesurfing on the flats, and Soma Bay makes an unhurried base for travellers who want the reef and the beach with a quieter, more polished feel.

The best coral sits at the end of the peninsula's jetty, so pick a hotel with reef access if snorkelling straight off the shore matters to you.
