Walk the plateau beneath the Great Pyramid of Khufu, built from millions of limestone blocks around 2560 BC, pay the extra fee to squeeze into its inner chamber, and ride a camel out to the panorama point where all three pyramids line up. Just south, Saqqara's Step Pyramid and Dahshur's Bent and Red Pyramids trace how the true pyramid was invented, with a fraction of the crowds.
The new Grand Egyptian Museum sits nearby, making Giza the natural anchor of any Cairo visit.
